Prenatal & Postpartum Yoga
Prenatal and Postpartum Yoga. The Prenatal and Postpartum practice consists of asana (poses), pranayama (breathing) and meditation practice The Yoga classes are one-hour private classes for 1 to 3 women. This will ensure that the participants will get the full attention of the teacher, because pregnancy and the postpartum can be a different experience for each woman. Before the first class the participant will answer a questionnaire to understand the health and fitness condition of the pregnant/postpartum women. Based on the answers we create an individualized practice to address the specific needs and capabilities.
In general, the yoga practice will be designed to increase overall strength and flexibility. However, there is a heavier focus on strength since most woman become more flexible during pregnancy, because of hormonal changes.
For postpartum women, the focus is on helping you to heal, strengthen and come back to the regular capabilities of your body. It also will help you in your “4th” Trimester. This time is just as important to take care of oneself and the baby. It is the time to welcome motherhood, taking care of your baby, settling into the new life rhythm and find balance in it.
The practice will help to address pregnancy conditions like lower back pain, sciatica, fatigue, nausea, swelling and inflammation, circulation, stress, elimination, and sleep, to name a few.
For the pregnant women it is a wonderful way to experience your body, the changes and how your baby grows inside of you, to connect with your pregnancy and baby. For the postpartum women this will help to go through the changes after giving birth, to stay grounded, be a mother and connect to with the newborn baby.
