Everyone is welcome to practice at Ashtanga Yoga Shala New Braunfels, beginners and experienced practitioners alike. All practitioners are treated equal, with respect, kindness and compassion. We do not discriminate, because of ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, age, color of the skin or any differences. Yoga is a vessel for any kind of spirituality, orientation or ethnicity a person practices or goes by.
Ashtanga Yoga Shala New Braunfels is not a commercial or corporate business. This is a yoga shala (school) according to the parampara tradition. This means, the student learns directly from the teacher. Students are not treated as consumers or a number. The teacher does not use his knowledge and experience to dictate, control, establish himself as an authority figure or a business as usual. We are all yoga practitioners and have mutual respect! We are brothers and sisters learning and using the tool of yoga to progress physically, mentally and spiritually. We teach traditional Ashtanga Yoga, with the teacher humbly sharing his knowledge and experience.
Teacher and student are responsible for the wellbeing and health of the student while practicing at the shala. The teacher helps everyone, in any way possible, with their practice, according to their capability, in a respectful, healthy and save way. This includes, the student will go further in the practice, when the teacher sees it fit, to ensure students will progress in a healthy way. This will be explained and discussed, for the student to understand and avoid misunderstandings. The teacher is here to listen and help in any way he can according to his knowledge, experience and the information given. The teacher and student communicate about the practice, any issues and questions, the student and teacher would like to discuss. Decisions are made together, with the students’ best interest in mind. Please, do not ignore any suggestions, which might mean to use modifications, changes to your practice, additional exercises or at the most to stop practicing. Teacher and student collaborate. The teacher is here to help, to understand each student’s unique constitution and to offer a safe space for the exploration of Ashtanga Yoga.
In Ashtanga Yoga teachers give adjustments to help student to learn the asanas, to get deeper into the asana, to teach the correct positioning in an asana and how to move through the practice. At Ashtanga Yoga Shala the student has the right to decide about being adjusted or not. Students can let the teacher know before practice or use the consent cards to signal her/his decision. At any time, the student can agree or disagree to get adjusted. The teacher will absolutely respect the student’s decision, their body and personality! Any issues about adjustments can be discussed with the teacher before or after practice.
We are here to support yoga practitioners in their practice and to use this precious tool of yoga, to grow on their journey of yoga!
